New Mexico Teletherapy
- Tired of feeling depressed, anxious, angry or tired more than feeling happy?
- Worn out from the cycle of doing for others only to be left feeling resentful and/or guilty?
- Try to do things to feel better physically only to have issues with sleep, pain or constant trips to the doctor’s office?
- Tired of drugs or other behavioral issues (spending, porn, sex, food, gaming) to distract you from the pain only to find it creates more problems than it fixes?
You’ve come to the right place. I’m Rhonda Shields LPCC DCBT, and I help adults and couples just like you: ones that have it within them to find peace, joy and happiness in life and in relationships, but just need the support to get there. I help my clients live a healthy happy life no matter what comes by equipping them with the rational self counseling tools they need to be their own therapist – once and done. No matter if clients have been in and out of therapy many times.
Many of today’s solutions for trauma and it’s emotional and behavioral wreckage are trendy ideas or drawn out, one-size-fits-all, leading so many to feel helpless that real change is possible. I know that your circumstances are unique, so we start with your goals – what you really want out of our time together so every step we take is tailored to you, and always with an end goal in mind.
First, we examine what is going on for you and how these issues are causing pain for you. My goal for you is that you learn all the rational self counseling skills so that you meet your goals for therapy. One aspect of therapy with me is hypnotherapy and a wide array of guided imagery work to get better quicker, to relieve both physical and emotional pain all to help you meet your goals for therapy. Through our work together, you’ll will get better and more importantly know why you are better.
I’m Dedicated to helping adults get better
My training in Rational Living Therapy a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Hypnotherapy means I have the expertise you need and desire. At the end of the day, you want to know you’re working with someone who “gets” what it means to be struggling with all the emotional problems from life’s wounds. You may not care what I know until you know that I care. I have devoted my career of a decade and half to working with people with multiple and many different traumas that has left emotional wreckage in its wake. I know that it may at times feel hopeless or that you may be powerless, so when we work together, you won’t just get a trained therapist. You’ll get someone who truly understands what you’re going through.
Many general therapists aren’t comfortable or understand trauma and its effect on the human brain and often so many people not getting the real help that they want. Often this leads to feeling helpless that real change is possible. Some people who come to me report that they have been told by other therapists that their problems are “too difficult to treat” creating an idea that somehow they can’t be treated. This is far from the truth.
I know that your circumstances are unique, so we start with your goals – what you really want out of our time together so every step we take is tailored to you, and always with an end goal in mind.

I attended college at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales (1997) and New Mexico Highlands University (2006) in Las Vegas for undergraduate and master’s degree respectfully. Since 2010 I have used a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy called Rational Living Therapy (RLT) and now hold diplomat status with National Association of Cognitive Therapy.
As part of my training for RLT, I also learned hypnotherapy which I have since expanded to use a variety of mindfulness and Neurolinguistics Programming to bring about lasting change much faster than talk therapy alone. Guided imagery and hypnosis are useful options and not required to work with me.
My experience has primarily been in community mental health agencies in addictions, emotional issues and trauma work in both group and individual formats.
